All the projects presented here were completed as part of my tenure at Century Sign Builders and are presented with its permission. Much credit should be given to the entire staff at CSB for these projects. What I present here are projects in which I controlled the concept and design.

United Way
These elegant donor recognition displays were originally designed to recognize the hundreds of individuals and businesses that give to the United Way of Central New Mexico . Each panel (48” x 48” or 48” x 65”) holds curved text insert carriers above a large format photo (provided by the masterful Michael Barley). The ‘floating' text panels are easily updated via a large format transparency print. The facility to print this update was also implemented with the original installation. The system was so well received that two more United Way offices have adopted it for their own donor recognition programs.

DPS Design
This nameplate system was originally designed for the new offices of the architecture firm DPS Design ( Albuquerque , NM ). Housing approximately 175 employees, their new offices are located in a LEED certified building of their own design so green signage was a must. I designed this unique nameplate using renewable Plyboo (bamboo) substrates to have almost zero impact on the wastestream as updates are maintained by an end-user transparency print. Flexible rubber nipples hold the clear lens in place so updates are completely tool-less. The sign mounts securely to modular office furniture via high power magnets embedded just below the surface.

Haaku Museum , Pueblo of Acoma .
An exercise in both material and cultural sensitivity, the newly constructed Acoma Cultural Center is a building featuring top quality architecture, building techniques and integration with the rich traditions of the Acoma people. Everything about the designs of these signs had to fit the cultural richness of the site. Hardwood, sandstone and mica (an indigenous material to the Acoma ) were used to give a functional and beautiful result.

Jewish Community Center, Albuquerque NM
The JCC wished to recognize the hundreds of donors who made the construction of their new center possible…and on a grand scale. The ‘Arches of Honor' is a massive display over 20 feet long and 8 feet tall. Donor names are displayed on uniquely shaped acrylic panels that fit into a modular aluminum rail system. The names are categorized based on giving, but the rail system design allows the plate to be easily moved up to new categories as a donor gives more. The undulating design allows the display to disguise the fact that it has capacity for twice as many donors as it was originally installed with and gives an abstract representation of script Hebrew lettering.

Gold Ave. Lofts
One of the first of Albuquerque's downtown loft projects, the Gold Ave. Lofts feature high contemporary style including a fantastic copper plated entry way. The signs designed for the project reflect the material and stylistic features of the building by using tiled penny finish copper plates. Each plate is unique and hand placed giving the signs a sense of real individuality.

Explora Children's Science Center
Hands-on science centers were my favorite thing as a child, so I jumped at the opportunity to design recognition signage for the donors that made Explora's new building possible. The main donor wall is a collage of fun shapes and scientific imagery displaying hundreds of donor names. The background material is a wavy 3-Form Areo, which produces wonderful dancing moiré patterns as you walk past. The main donor wall was awarded a Silver Addy in 2004. The secondary wall recognizes high-value donors and features a modular panel and peg design using 1” acrylic which is sandblasted on 5 sides and backed with poplar wood.

Center for Contemporary Arts, Santa Fe
This display is an advertising and recognition sign for the CCA's capital campaign to expand their gallery. Located in the lobby of one of Santa Fe 's most respected art spaces, the piece needed to be as artful as its environment. Donor names are added via name plate strips on the main area of the display while the left side features a laser engraved blueprint of the new gallery on clear acrylic, under which black acrylic squares are added as the financial goals of the campaign are met. Although all work was done at CSB Signs, I designed, fabricated and installed this piece personally.

Associated General Contractors of New Mexico
This exterior monument sign was designed to complement the newly renovated AGC headquarters. The pronounced angle and diametric materials (brick and aluminum) integrate both the building and the AGC's fusion of old and new ideas in construction.
The AGC has alway recognized their past presidents by displaying their portraits in the boardroom. I was asked to update this display during the renovation of their headquarters. The resulting ‘Legends Wall' is a wonderful break from typical boardroom decoration. The wall is constructed of 80 panels projected from the wall at various depths to create a sort of ‘wave' effect. Not obvious from the front but the effect is striking as you move around the room.

Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce
After operating for years in what was called ‘the dungeon' (basement of the Convention Center) the GACC moved to a lofty new space in the heart of Albuquerque 's revitalized downtown. Sponsorship came from every sector in town resulting in a dense recognition space: everything from the front desk to the staircase had sponsors that needed to be recognized. The signs shown here represent just some of designs created to reflect the progressive space and sense of optimism at the GACC.

One Sun Plaza
The former corporate headquarters of Sun Health Systems, the building at 100 Sun Ave., is one of the most advanced and elegant office spaces in Albuquerque . Sign designs for the building had to reflect the sophistication of the architecture and its future tenants. The airy directory constructed of glass and aluminum is mounted directly to the side of the two-story internally illuminated staircase sited in the main lobby. Suite signs and other ADA signs are constructed using both glass and matte clear acrylic.

Garden Gate Day Spa
The newest addition to the Center for Ageless Living, Garden Gate is a top quality day spa with a mission to provide therapeutic spa services to seniors in the community. The signs designed for the spa reinforce the company brand (which I developed), integrate strongly with the facilities' overall look and give design considerations for its target audience. Use of brand themes such as deep browns and circles mix with materials such a bamboo to create a functional and appealing sign package.

Sandia Area Federal Credit Union
These signs were designed to complement the architecture of SAFCU's Coors Ave. building. The architecture's funky angles and protrusions were reiterated in rooms signs, poster displays and even the nameplates.

Amy Biehl High School
This visionary charter High School founds its home in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Albuquerque . The old territorial post office was originally constructed in 1908 and much of the buildings' renovation worked to restore the site to its original state. The classroom signs were inspired by the original door letters and existing architectural features such as the classic elevator and wood moldings.
